Native for macOS
Hold. Sweep. Done.
A radial launcher that blooms at your cursor, and runs your own AI prompts on the text you already have selected.
First month free. Then $2.99/month for Pro — the launcher itself stays free forever.
- macOS 14 or later
- Apple silicon & Intel
- Menu bar app, 6 MB
- On-device AI on macOS 26+
- No account required
How it works
Three motions, one gesture.
No window opens. No search field takes focus. The ring appears under your pointer and disappears the moment you let go.
Hold
Press ⌥Space or hold the right mouse button. The ring blooms exactly where your cursor already is.
Sweep
Move toward what you want. The nearest node takes over. Land on a pack and its own ring blooms outward from that node.
Done
Let go. The action runs against the front app, the current selection, or nothing at all. Your text is replaced in place.
AI actions
Your prompts.
Your text.
Your machine.
Select text in any app, sweep to an action, and your own prompt runs against it. The result replaces the selection, opens in a panel, or lands on the clipboard, whichever you chose when you wrote the action.
On macOS 26 and later, Apple’s on-device model is the default. Nothing leaves the Mac, nothing costs anything, and no key is required. When you want a larger model, add your own Anthropic, OpenAI or Ollama endpoint per action.
- Private by defaultOn-device inference. No server hop, no telemetry, works on a plane.
- Any appMail, Xcode, Notes, Slack, Figma text fields, a terminal, a web form.
- Your wordingActions are just prompts you write, with a name and an output mode.
- Per action routingCheap edits on-device, heavy reasoning on the key you supply.
Packs
Rings inside rings.
A pack is a ring you drop into another ring. Land on it and its actions bloom outward, away from the centre, so the parent stays where it was and your hand keeps moving in one direction. Nothing recentres, nothing jumps.
- Nest freelyPacks inside packs. Eight slots per ring keeps every target a flick away.
- Per-app ringsXcode gets build and simulator actions. Mail gets replies. Finder gets paths.
- Anything runnableApps, files, folders, URLs, shell scripts, AppleScript, Shortcuts.
- Saved packsExport a pack as a single file, keep it in a repo, hand it to a teammate.
Positioning
Nobody owns the pointer.
Keyboard launchers are excellent, and most people who use Orbwing keep one. They answer a different question: what do you reach for when your hand is already on the mouse, the trackpad or the pen?
| Orbwing | Keyboard launchers | |
|---|---|---|
| Opening it | ⌥Space, or hold right-click, at the cursor | A global hotkey, window at screen centre |
| Input | Point and sweep, then release | Type a query, read a result list, hit return |
| Best moment | Hand already on the pointer, mid-edit or mid-canvas | Hands already on the keys, between tasks |
| Selected text | Read and replaced in place, in the app you are in | Often through the clipboard or a separate window |
| AI | Your own prompts, Apple’s on-device model by default | Varies by app, commonly cloud-hosted and subscription based |
| Muscle memory | Spatial, one direction per action | Lexical, one name per action |
| Price | $2.99/month, first month free | Free tiers and subscriptions, depending on the app |

Questions
Before you download.
Does it work with Apple’s Writing Tools?
They sit next to each other rather than on top of each other. Writing Tools gives you Apple’s fixed set of edits: proofread, rewrite, make it friendly. Orbwing runs prompts you wrote, with the wording, tone rules and output format you decided on, and it puts them in the same ring as launching an app, opening a project folder or running a build script. Use Writing Tools for the standard passes and Orbwing for the ones that are specific to how you work.
Do I need an API key or a subscription?
No. On macOS 26 and later, actions run on Apple’s on-device model, which is free and needs no setup. A key is only for people who want a frontier model on certain actions, and you add it per action, so you can keep everyday edits local and send only the heavy ones out.
Does my selected text leave my Mac?
Not with the default model. On-device inference means the text never touches a network. If you deliberately point an action at Anthropic, OpenAI or a remote Ollama host, that action’s text goes to that provider and nowhere else. Orbwing has no server, no account and no analytics of its own.
What happens if I cancel?
The launcher stays. Rings, packs, per-app rings and every action that opens an app, file, folder or link keeps working for free, permanently. AI actions and script actions pause until you resubscribe, and the app tells you plainly once rather than reminding you every day.
Mouse only, or does it work with a trackpad and keyboard too?
All three. Hold right-click on a mouse, hold a two-finger click or a hotkey on a trackpad, and ⌥Space anywhere. Once the ring is open you can also sweep with arrow keys or type the first letters of an action, so nothing forces your hand off the keys if it is already there.
Your actions, where your cursor already is.
Fourteen days, everything unlocked, no account.
